Believe it or not, Valium or Diazepam was the 6th most prescribed drugs in the United states in 2017. Yet, many people don’t know much about this drug. In this article, we’ll learn the basics on how Valium works in the human body. We’ll later on take some more advanced approaches.

Valium is a Benzodiazepine

What that means is that Valium acts to increase the effect of GABA (Gamma-Aminobutyric Acid), an inhibitory neurotransmitter. Now, that is a bunch of medical talks the people don’t properly understand. However, we’ll do our best to explain the situation.

Our brain doesn’t have eyes to look all throughout the inner body. Yet, it knows everything that is going on. It does that with the help of two things- The Nervous System and the Neurotransmitters. The Nervous System is a web of brain cells (Neurons) that is spread all over the body. On the other hand, Neurotransmitters are chemicals (Hormones). The increase of decrease of the level of these hormones signals the brain of different situations.

Neurotransmitters and Receptors

For example, when the body needs energy, it releases insulin, a sugar metabolizer as sugar (Carbohydrates) gives us energy. When the level of insulin increases in the body, our brain gets that signal and creates a sensation of hunger.

What are the Functions of GABA?

GABA is the mother of all inhibitory Neurotransmitters. It’s primary function is to calm the brain down. It also metabolizes and neutralizes other exciter hormones such as Adrenaline.

Without the exciter hormones, our body starts to calm down. GABA can also call on other inhibitory hormones such as Melatonin (The sleep hormone) and Endorphin (A muscle relaxant).

How does Valium Work?

Diazepam or Valium simply increases the effectiveness of GABA by opening up the GABA receptors. After taking it, you will have a calm, cool, and satisfactory feeling. That is probably why Valium is a controlled substance. It’s all good but after a long-term use, you may feel addicted to the feeling. However, there is a way to avoid it. Use Valium only when you know that you will have a stressful day at the office. There is no need to take it on a Sunday. Do that, and you will never be addicted.

Last Words

You cannot get Valium from a regular pharmacy without a prescription. Only international pharmacies that are outside the US jurisdiction can ship it to you from outside the USA or UK. If you have decided to buy Valium online, make sure you find an online pharmacy that you can trust. There are lots of frauds out there. I plan to publish a series of articles on Valium, the side effects, precautions and where to order Valium online in the USA and UK.
